New and improved LCR Digital Music Venues Map

The Liverpool City Region Music Board, in partnership with researchers at the University of Liverpool, has released of a significantly updated version of its digital venues map. This comprehensive resource, designed to support the local music ecosystem, offers detailed information about live music venues across the region.

The map, which can be viewed on both the LCR Music Board website and the Liverpool Music City website, retains its core feature of geolocating nearly 600 active music venues. However, this latest version introduces a range of new features, along with improved data, making it an even more invaluable tool for music enthusiasts, artists, and industry professionals alike.

1. Transport Routes Overlay

A major enhancement is the inclusion of a transport section, which overlays key bus and rail routes onto the map. This provides users with a clear view of venues’ proximity to public transport options, making it easier to plan journeys. The night bus route overlay, an essential service for late-night travel after events, continues to feature prominently, ensuring safer and more affordable journeys home.

2. Expanded Venue Information

The update introduces a deeper level of detail for each venue. In addition to categorising venues by primary function (e.g., bar with music, concert hall, festival space), the map now displays secondary activities and businesses operating within certain venues.

Event Listings and Ticket Links: Where available, links to online ticketing platforms have been added, allowing users to quickly check event schedules and purchase tickets directly.

Music Genres and Frequency of Events: Updated entries now indicate the styles of music typically performed at each venue, whether it’s live bands playing original material, solo artists, orchestras, or cover acts. Users can also see how frequently live events are held, from daily performances to monthly shows.

3. Improved Venue Capacity Data

Capacity details for nearly all venues have been added or updated, with estimates provided where exact figures could not be sourced. This improvement significantly enhances the utility of the map’s capacity search filter, allowing users to locate venues based on size more effectively.

Ongoing work

The digital venues map remains a collaborative project, with contributions from local venues, artists, and music fans vital to its success. Users are encouraged to help keep the map current by reporting closures, suggesting updates, or adding new venues via this quick form or by emailing info@lcrmusicboard.co.uk.

With these updates, the Liverpool City Region Music Board continues its commitment to strengthening the city’s vibrant music scene, providing a vital tool for connecting audiences with the venues and artists that make it thrive.
